St Andrews is the undisputed home of golf. We know from guests who come to enjoy the famous links that, as well as a passion for golf, they also share a love of fabulous food.
Golfers – whether from close to home or from the other side of the world – adore the Jigger Inn, the game’s most famous 19th hole … right alongside golf’s most famous par four, the Road Hole.
Our Exec Chef, Martin Hollis, oversees all the menus at the resort and explains: “Before – or after – a round of golf, we know players just love to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy our pub food at the Jigger. Fish & Chips, the Jigger Burger and our Club Sandwich are firm favourites that – whatever the outcome of their round – win time and again.” Martin adds: “And in the evenings, when golfers like to celebrate in style, they often head to our 3 AA rosette-awarded Road Hole Restaurant, high on the fourth floor, with panoramic views over the links.”
As a result, the award-winning restaurant seldom sees golfers during the daytime. Martin adds: “If they’re not on the course, they want to be enjoying as authentic a golfers’ experience as possible – so that means the Jigger Inn or our Hams Hame Pub & Restaurant behind the 18th green – an incredible venue built on the site that was home to the Union Parlour, the very first golfers’ club in St Andrews in the first half of the 19thy century.”
And so the Road Hole Restaurant takes on a very different feel and clientele at lunchtimes. Martin explains: “Our team of chefs is passionate about seasonal, Scottish ingredients – and lunchtime gives us a unique opportunity to show what can be created and served for a sensational lunch at an incredibly affordable price. From Thursday to Sunday – inclusive – we offer a three-course lunch in the Road Hole Restaurant for just £18.50 per person. We like to think we have created the home of Scottish cuisine in the home of golf. It proves incredibly popular – and attracts foodies from far and wide.”
